Wire EDM machines are precision, technology-intensive equipment. Operators must be trained before running them. Maintenance — regular lubrication, periodic adjustment and timely replacement of worn parts — is the basis of reliable operation and a long service life.

1. Operating Rules

machine-maintenance

  1. Learn the machine’s structure and procedures; observe safety rules.
  2. Cut only within rated limits — no overloading, no travel overruns.
  3. Check knobs and reversal switches often; never run with a known fault.
  4. Lubricate on schedule with the right oil or grease; inspect guide wheels and bearings regularly.
  5. Before cutting, check the dielectric level and that pipes and flushing nozzles are clear.
  6. Clean the work area after each shift; wipe fixtures and keep attachments intact.
  7. Check electrical equipment for damp and dust periodically.
  8. Keep fixed operators per machine and follow the schedule.

2. Lubrication Reference

Component Method Lubricant Interval
Coordinate table (guide rails, lead screw nuts, bearings; X/Y drive gearbox) Oil gun HJ-30 machine oil Weekly
Wire feeding mechanism (guide wheels, sliding bearings, lead screw nuts) Hand pump / oil gun HJ-30 machine oil Every shift
Wire guide frame (guide wheel bearings, U/V table rails, taper frame gears, lift screw) Oil gun ZG-2 or No. 40 oil Every shift, plus before and after lifting

3. Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly Care

Weekly. Replace the filter when flushing fluid turns dirty or pressure drops after two hours of pumping; check the circulation system for pump noise, overheating and overflow-valve function.

Monthly. Replace a stopped fan in the pulse power supply and the rear dust cover; verify extinguishers and the automatic fire suppression for pressure and expiry.

Quarterly. Lubricate the X/Y/Z ball screws and linear guides — Z every two months, all three weekly during continuous production. Replace filter media and clean the pulse power supply at least quarterly; test the level switch, fire suppression and fluid temperature switch.

4. Key Areas

Guide wheels and bearings. Replace dirty dielectric promptly. For a briefly idle MS-WEDM, run the guide wheel dry a few seconds, add a little oil, run again and add more to keep bearings clean.

Interconnecting cable. Protect the floor-run cable with a cover and do not step on it; keep it slack, connectors free of load.

Guide rails and lead screws. Never let dirty fluid touch them; if contaminated, wipe with cotton, then lightly with cotton dipped in No. 10 oil.

Control cabinet. Handle gently; do not touch cards or the keyboard with oily hands.

Spool shaft and coupling. Keep coupling and key tight; if the key loosens or the coupling knocks, replace cushion parts and key at once, since reversal clearance enlarges the keyway. Keep the conductive block insulated from the bed and dirty fluid away from the stepper motors.

Machine bed. Never strike it or let the wire guide arm overrun into it.

5. Environment

  • Not suited to dirty, hot or humid conditions (constant temperature is not required).
  • Supply voltage within ±10% with balanced phases; add a stabilizer on poor grids.
  • Keep the area dry and clean.

6. Notes for EDM Drilling Machines

  1. Clean table wastewater and swarf after stopping to prevent corrosion.
  2. Maintain filtration and compressed-air draining for the 10MPa pneumatic pump; clean the tap-water filter regularly.
  3. Change the crankcase oil on time; the high-pressure crank wears the machine badly if skipped.
  4. Oil the X/Y/Z lead screws daily; aim the nozzle at the internal Z screw.
  5. Replace rotary-head seals periodically so leaking water cannot seize the bearings.

Summary: A well-maintained machine performs consistently in stability and accuracy. Making maintenance a habit extends equipment life, raises efficiency and cuts repair costs.
