Routine inspection of a wire EDM machine prevents stopping halfway through a cut. It focuses on four areas.

1. Incoming power. Check whether line voltage fluctuates within ±10%, whether harmonic content is severe, and the power factor. These indicate whether a voltage stabilizer is needed. Unstable power directly affects discharge stability.

2. Control cabinet dust. Control cabinets collect dust. When dust absorbs moisture it corrodes circuit boards and can cause shorts or open circuits, damaging components or destroying a whole board. Regular cabinet cleaning is an essential item of routine inspection.

routine-inspection 3. Molybdenum wire quality and installation. Wire quality, installation and storage all affect machining quality.

  • Selection: use a thicker wire for thick workpieces — it flushes better and allows higher tension.
  • Tension: too loose and the wire vibrates and breaks easily; too tight and internal stress rises and breaks it too.
  • Position: a wire that is off-center or not in one plane can easily be jammed or pinched off.
  • Storage: moisture, oxidation and sunlight make the wire brittle and breakable; store it properly.

4. Dielectric fluid condition. The working fluid cools, washes and flushes. If the fluid turns black — from poor water quality or long use — overall performance drops and breakage becomes likely; replace it.

In short: checking power, cabinet, wire and fluid takes only minutes. Making it a start-up habit sharply reduces mid-cut stops and scrap and raises overall efficiency.
